Subash Chellaiah won the Rotary International Peace Prize 2019 at the Llangollen International Muscial Eisteddfod (LIME), the Lincoln-based humanitarian was recognised for helping to establish peace between different faiths.

The Award is sponsored by Westminster Stone and was presented by MD John Clifford at the International Celebration on Thursday 4th July.

Mr Chellaiah has worked tirelessly for over 20 years to improve interfaith relations within the UK community and abroad. Aid has included tsunami rehabilitation, community restoration in North East India, and the establishment of schools in rural India. Whilst in his home town of Lincoln, Mr Chellaiah has developed a multi-faith Chaplaincy at the city’s university.

Rotary International is one of the largest humanitarian organisations in the world. LIME were the first recipients of the International Peace Prize in 2016 and the annual presentation is now held at LIME as part of the International Celebration.   The Prize rewards individuals whose work has promoted the furtherance of peace both in the UK and abroad.

In his acceptance speech Mr Chellaiah said he was humbled to receive this honour and thanked his parents for giving him the opportunity to become educated which led to 3 Bachelor Degrees in History, Theology and Religion and a PhD in Peace and Reconciliation, which in turn inspired him to work to improve the lives of others.Dr Waheed Arian, who was last year’s recipient joined Jean Best and Richard Hazlehurst on the adjudicating panel.
