These smooth Stonecast Yorkstone National Trust Petworth Flagstones have been skilfully moulded from time-worn originals, evoking the timeless grandeur of Petworth House in Sussex.

Hand crafted at Westminster Stone’s head office facility in rural Shropshire, National Trust Petworth Flagstones are beautiful garden paving slabs intended for traditional garden designs. They echo the tones and heritage of the most desirable country homes and gardens in the UK. Westminster Stone were chosen by the National Trust due to their experience and product quality, with over 30 years producing Stonecast garden paving

The warm olive and subtle grey tones complement both brick and stone properties, and a range of sizes ensures an authentic paved terrace or pathway. Beautiful as interior flooring, National Trust Petworth Flagstones are suitable for use with underflooring heating.

Inspiration for this range of paving came from Petworth House, a 17th-century mansion set in a beautiful 700-acre deer park landscaped by Capability Brown. It has been immortalised in several of Turner’s great paintings. The house contains the National Trust’s finest art collection: pictures, with numerous works by Turner, Van Dyck, Reynolds and Blake, fine furniture and carvings by Grinling Gibbons, and ancient and Neo-classical sculptures.

Capability Brown worked at Petworth from 1751 to 1764, creating the serpentine lake, and he swept away the earlier more formal layout near the house, retaining many of the fine trees. Deer still graze up to the windows of the house just as he had intended during the design in the mid-18th century. With careful replanting of the trees: oaks, sycamores, beeches, limes and horse-chestnuts, Capability’s vision of the tree-topped hills and wooded boundaries remains today, giving the impression of a gentle transition from country estate parkland to the more distant Sussex countryside.

Durable, frost and algae resistant and easy to maintain, National Trust Petworth Flagstones are the ideal choice for creating more formal paths, patio’s and terraces, adding instant maturity to any garden paving setting.

Petworth Flags also make stunning internal floors with an authentic texture and patina. Easy to keep clean and hardwearing, they are ideal for kitchens, hallways and boot rooms. Our friends at Buckden Towers used Petworth flags in their refurbishment, read more in our Petworth Paving case Study.

Part of the Country House range, Petworth Flagstones make up part of the National Trust Landscape Collection. This collection includes flagstones handmade from reclaimed originals, brick pavers and decorative shingle & gravel, perfect for replicating the look and feel of Great Britain’s best loved country homes. The Country House range also includes Tatton Cobbles, Shingle and Kerbstones, perfect for colour and style matching throughout a new or updated garden design.
